User Interviews
1 in 4 men develop arthritis as they age,
making once-easy tasks like shaving a struggle.
Data from the Arthritis Foundation

01
Each person holds their razor
differently, and the grip changes
at least twice during shaving.
02
The forefinger, thumb or both is
used to guide the razor, while
the other fingers balance it.
03
The weight and center of
gravity affect flexibility of the
razor movement while shaving.
Understanding typical shaving behaviors

Current razors worsen arthritis pain with their slim, rigid design.
-
Humped form reduces wrist strain
-
Ensures hand position stays neutral
-
Ensures minimal hand motion
-
Thick handle for easy grasp
-
Textured ribs secure grip from slipping
-
Pressure-absorbing to reduce joint strain

What can we learn from brands designing for ergonomics and arthritis?

Iterating through prototypes
As this is a tactile product, the process quickly
moved to physical prototyping & testing with clay &
3-d printing. The traditional razor was redesigned to
be sturdier yet maintain a masculine form factor.

Iterating through CAD
Since the razor design needed to be very
organic, I used Rhino subD for the first
time to create fluid forms and then
completed the detailing in Solidworks.

How might we extend Glossier’s visual language
to the realm of consumer electronics.

Gentle Form.
Every aspect of the surfacing and detailing was meticulously considered to create a soft, organic and memorable form.

Dual Colorways.
I explored a signature tone-on-tone pink option for the brand’s iconic aesthetic and a white and silver option for users who prefer a more neutral look.

A new addition to the Glossier family.

An ergonomic form that makes shaving easier.
