What can we learn from brands designing for ergonomics and arthritis?
Iterating through prototypes
As this is a tactile product, the process quickly
moved to physical prototyping & testing with clay &
3-d printing. The traditional razor was redesigned to
be sturdier yet maintain a masculine form factor.

Since the razor design needed to be very
organic, I used Rhino subD for the first
time to create fluid forms and then
completed the detailing in Solidworks.

Every aspect of the surfacing and detailing was meticulously considered to create a soft, organic and memorable form.

I explored a signature tone-on-tone pink option for the brand’s iconic aesthetic and a white and silver option for users who prefer a more neutral look.

The design of traditional cartridge razors puts
pressure on the fingertips and strain on the
knuckles due to the forced pinching motion
required to grip them for prolonged time.
Keen has an ergonomic form that makes
shaving easier.
With its wide, rounded form, the new design
eases strain by matching the contours of the
hand so the fingers can wrap gently around
instead of pinching or bending painfully.
